What is meant by elongation on the packaged welding rods???

A mechanical property of metal ( Ductility )that is the degree to which a material may be bent, stretched, or compressed before it ruptures. It is a point between tensile strength and yield strength and is expressed as a percentage of the original length.

Is this one of the reasons that 7018 seems to be the
Go To Rod of so many welders???

Sorry for not replying sooner. It primarily depends on application and to which of the characteristics or all is of primary importance. Tensile strength, yield strenght, elongation, and charpy v-notch. If you have a weldment that is primarily loaded with tensile stresses, then tensile strength is of primary importance and so on....
