We pulled the little Miller inverter out today and tried to burn 6010 electrodes 1/8". These things just won't maintain an arc! 7018's run fine.
Is it the open circuit voltage these units put out that limits them?

It's more an issue of "dig", the machine's ability to increase the current when you approach short-out with the rod. The machine can do it, but you've got to be ready to run hot. Say 105A for an 1/8" 6010. Then jamb it in and go... no whip and pause.
