Welding Tips and Tricks

I've heard a lot of people aren't fans of 6013's, but the majority of rods here seem to be either 6013's or 7018's. After being recommended 7014's I had a lot of trouble finding some here. So far the Ferrocraft 21's are the only rod's I've found, they're OK but if anyone can make other suggestions I'd appreciate it.

I got the 2.5's (PN: 611242) from the LWS if anyone is struggling to find them.

I've also just bought a 2nd hand rod oven, so I might give 7018's a shot. A lot more readily available.

If quality is what you want, go for WIA 18 tt, or 7016 16tcs. (low hydrogen, no iron powder) those are the best rods you'll find here. WIA 12p is a great general rod. Although, im not sure what more you can want in a rod than a ferrocraft 21. Damn fine electrode. Kobe lbu's are alright as well.

I've got a couple of boxes of 16tc's but was under the impression that they needed an oven if not consumed in one session... Will give them a shot!

Keep them sealed in a container with some of that silica crystal stuff that absorbs moisture and they'll be fine. If it's not critical pressure vessels stuff, the rods themselves will be cool as.

Plus the added bonus of ferro 21 is the strength and deposition rate of 7018 with out the need for an oven.

Second hand oven has arrived, so no excuses any more.

I'm going back to basics and going to pad beads. I can get Lincoln Easyarc rods for ~$AU120/20kg of 2.5mm which seems better than what I've been paying ($50+ for 5kg). Think I'll go the E7018-1's, but can also get 6012, 6013, 7016. Assume they'll be most useful to practice with.

Yeah. Only buy the quality when it pays for itself. As for GPs . Murex 12s and cigweld satincraft 13s are perfect for home.
