Welding Tips and Tricks

Been playing with 6011 lately. It doesn't seem to have the easy Flux chip ability of 7014/7018. It also doesn't seem to have the nice look of a 7014/7018. Can someone provide me with a photo of a good 6011 weld?

Apples and oranges. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if done right an old school 6010 Texas weave looks really nice. Different rod characteristics, the 6010,11 and 13 is not going to look like a 7014 or 18. I think Otto (Steve) used a 6013 on his pump carts. His welds are perfect, that is what they will look like when done correctly.

I know that 6011 doesn't/never will look like 7014/7018. What I am looking for is a photo to compare my welds to.

It's a freezer not a flow-er. Almost a mistake proof rod, just not flashy.

You're not going to make a 6010 or 6011 weld look much better than that, and that's fine. The results are not in the cosmetics. It's hard to post -10 or -11 welds to that "weldporn" site, though some very skilled hands do it.

I appreciate the praise for my 6013 welds on the pump carts, but I did not choose the rod. It was what was on hand and I could use today without putting in a PO request. Since I didn't feel like going through all the prep steps, it was appropriate, but I would have been happier with a 6011 just for speed, penetration, and cleanup.

I think these aren't half bad...1/8 6011 Hobarts from tractor supply at like 90 amps iirc Just practicing padding beads on plate.
