I've recently been messing with 1/4 inch aluminum and butt joints I'll tell y'all that I AM playing havoc with 3/32 blue lanthanated tungsten. I can see the filler trying to come thru the back side of the joint about half way thru the weld. I need to turn the heat up at the start, but at the same time I am churning the edges of the material. also getting to my "asbestos" fingers and needing a rest after a bit. Wondering if 75/25 helium is right or IF Oscars formula for the gas mixes would help .. You're not carrying enough current.
If so, at what amperage do you folks change from 3/32" to 1/8" electrodes?
you would vaporise a 3/32 tungsten welding 1/4' aluminium.

I just did some 1/4" 5052 today. Two pieces the smaller was 10"×16" the larger two were 10"×36" so, a 10" fillet
I started out with my machine at 280 but dialed it back to 250 and didnt use it all.
1/8" tri mix wolfram tungsten
#8 cup and gas lense.
20 on the gas.
Advanced square
75 on the balance
96 hz.
Actually got a little too much pen in a couple places.
Hope that helps.
