Hey all,

I have a HTP 221 and I am about to tackle a roll cage project on my Miata. I have been using the pedal for all my TIG experience at the bench but I know it will be a pain to use the pedal while working inside the car. I'd like to purchase a hand control but before I do, I'd like to get some opinions on the options available as well as any other suggestions.

I currently have this but it is only good for on/off which will be good for tacking the cage together:

This is another option from USA weld but there isn't a description on how the controller works. Does it vary amperage? If so, is it the full range like a pedal?

I've got the TIG Button. In fact, I have 2 of them for different machines. They work well, take a bit of fiddling to position "just right" so you can manage them. Their Support/Service is top shelf!

I don't know the other products.

TIG button here as well. After I installed it, I haven’t plugged the foot pedal in at all.

TIG buttons seem great and I've wanted to try one myself. However, don't discount the power of a regular torch switch running 2T and using the up/down slope to control the amperage. It takes a bit of practice, but you will soon be able to make some great welds using that method, even on thin tubing. Even if you do go with the TIG button (or other amp control device like that), learning to run amp control on a regular binary switch is still a great skill to have in your arsenal. Just my two cents.

Go with the TIG Button. I have one on my Dynasty and MT200. We started selling the TIG Button because I feel it is the best overall solution on the market today.

I have all 3 plus the pedal, and I haven't used an on/off button nor a pedal in years. TIG button is offered through Aaron's 6061 site, but it is made by Dave & Gary @ http://www.tigcontrol.com

I've got the tig button as well. My friend who builds cobia towers and t-tops has a wheel hand control. It's all a matter of preference.
