Has anyone had the problem of the cup sticking to the job when walking the cup or sliding it along the join? If so what can be done to stop it?

Do you have a death-grip on the torch? Usually for walking, you need to have a really light grip. If you're inadvertently 'digging' it in, it will definitely stick/jam, especially with aluminum.

The cup is clean, no spatter/contamination that could create an electrical path?
EWM Phonenix 355 Pulse MIG set mainly for Aluminum, CIGWeld 300Amp AC/DC TIG, TRANSMIG S3C 300 Amp MIG, etc, etc
