I never thought to turn my gas down that much. Very rare for me to be in situation where I had too much (welding) gas.

Everything ran good after I turned down the gas flow. I was running 15 but I think it was cooling the puddle and blowing the arc around and after I turned it down everything kinda stabilized a bit. I gotta say this has been fun...and a learning experience too.

16 amps .040 2% lanthinated, .025 safely wire, 400 pulses per second, 40% pulse duration. At that low of an amperage setting my machine doesn't allow me to set background current so l assume it defaults to it's lowest value which is 4 amps. I need to get better control of my dabs. The lack of shielding at the end is totally my fault.......i sneezed.
High speed pulse is amazing. It is very noticeable how much more control over heat input it gives you.

I just bought a ton of them. And I guarantee that about half of what I bought will be sacrificed to this thread as I practise.

OK, Ifeel like this is a little bit of a cheat. I used pulse, so it's not all man, the machine did kick in some effort here, but I was able to use .035 mig wire on both kinds of razor blades. I do think the fixed #9 gold shade helped. I also basically used laywire technique and lit off with the wire on top of the blades at the start. So while I don't feel it's 100% in the spirit of this challenge, it was an excellent demonstration of how good pulse can be on thin material. Need to get some smaller filler so I can try these again for real.

:shock: Nice job! The pulse was the key it sounds like. I couldn't get .035 or even .030 mig wire to cooperate when I tried it. Now it's time for a filet weld. Jody actually has a video on how to do it.

I went to plus too. Just to be clear whoever started this thread is a SOB and cost me 2$ at harbor freight. :D. Standard #8 cup 3/32 thoriated pulsed at 50hz. 13 amps high and 5 low. About 60% high amps Cfh at 15. .023 mig wire.

OK...next challenge...Inside corner weld. This is my first attempt. You can see where I was burning through the top blade in the beginning and then I reground my tungsten to a long sharp point and re-adjusted my torch angle. Arc was wandering a little until I reground it. 1/16" E3, gas lens, 14cfh, 27amps, no pulse .030 MIG WIRE. These blades are 22ga. I can already see it won't take long to master these thicker blades especially using pulse.
WHO WILL BE THE FIRST TO GET AN INSIDE CORNER OR FILET ON THE LITTLE BLADES??? :twisted: i JUST THREW DOWN THE GAUNTLET!! BWAHAHAHAHA!

Plus I can blame my bad razor welds on poor metal quality from those China blades!

Gonna cost me more than $2! Smaller diameter filler, make/buy/cobble diamond wheel tungsten grinder, maybe a 6 shade gold filter, razor blades... And since this is the only project I have done with the new machine I basically spent 5k to weld razorblades together! :shock:

I like that everyone that tries this as a challenge, effectivley wins, as they will undoubtedly learn something. Dropping the gas flow to under 10cfh to get better puddle control is something I probably would not have worked out on my own. Putting that one in the trick bag and I bet it will get used more than once.

When you weld up this thin stuff and then go back to thick it makes you realize that nothing about this is hard. I don't get to tig alot so I like having fun with it. If you think 5 grand to weld razor blades is bad you should look in my gun safe sometime. :lol:

I have some .035 silicon bronze MIG wire I'm going to try as filler. Should be interesting.

While your at Harbor Freight, they have a little 3 piece diamond grinding wheel set that works pretty good. I haven't tried it on tungsten but it has held up on other things OK.
I don't know it all but I'm working on it.
