Ah yes... The man who wants to learn the hard way. I've never welded aluminum tubing so no pointers or judgment, but you picked the hard way to learn... But then again I beleive you learn something the hard way you do it better the easier way.Bisdremis K. wrote:new to the forum and to welding in general(about 180lit of argon so far).. this is my practice 40mm aluminum pipe 2.5 mm wall thickes , basically a test post to see how to upload photos, hope it works

You'll like the Fupa, took me a little to get use to pushing the screens in. Yes when welded back purged...

Sam, those look like MY aluminum pipe welds.
Were you drunk? Do you need a trip to the eye doctor?
(That's how I roll...)
Just Kidding. Very nice!

failure is a great teacher
Finished the flange side of my intake manifold. Next need to mount the fuel rail and then wait until the engine's back in the car to figure out the plenum dimensions

Fabricating in the sense of cutting/fitting, yes. The bends are purchased from a supplier, and then trimmed to fit/weld. That pipe starts life as a 90 w/ a 6" leg and probably 24" or so, and then a pair of 90s with 6" legs. Tangent cuts on the 90s, and then a 45 cut with offset legs to get the vertical transition spaced correctly.motox wrote:sam
fabricating up, not dabbing up,spell ck sorry.....
Welded at 250hz (those might have been welded at 75, I don't remember ) and 78% Balance. I'm not used to only having those settings to play with, I used Dynasty 350s at the other shop with independent amplitude adjustment. Not that the Dynasty 200 is a slouch by any means, but being able to tweak the arc just right makes for a rewarding experience. Or a nightmare. Depends on how far you turn the knob!!!

Made a new tungsten holder out of the hydraulic cylinder from one of my prosthetic "experiments" (my leg guy gave me some extras to take apart and see how they go together since he was curious as well) I should be able to hold all of the tungsten now!
