Welding and fabbing something other then stainless or pipe today...

Carbon steel, new hyd cyl mounts for a product dumper. Its always nice to crank it up and let it eat... 220amps er70s-2

I got some 1-1/4 pipe at the scrapyard a while ago and built myself a storage rack for barbell plates. The pictures are for the second one I'm building for a friend. Its sch 80 steel pipe. I welded the joints at 85-90 amps with 70s-2 with and everlast 160sth. Comments, criticism are welcome.

Bit of a noob on the tig only on my 2nd bottle of gas so far, learning as I go as there's no one around these parts to learn from
Jody has been my main influence... even in choice of machine(Everlast 210ext)
this is my 2nd project so far... welding table next :laugh:

Tube is 65x2.5mm RHS(2.5"x 3/16 ??)
65x5mm flat bar for end caps and castor support legs
100x5mm flat bar for castor plates and gussets
5" cast iron castors
All TIG welded

Decided to try and cope the joints, just scribed a line around the tube and cut down to the line with a hacksaw then removed to the line on two sides with a die grinder(Im trying to improve my fit ups). after that I put them over an anvil and bent the wings out enough to allow the sides to touch the join area


Welded up the sides using filler rod then hammered the wings down, proceeded to weld up without filler used the extra of the wings as the filler



Added some gussets to support the bandsaw and some plates for swivel castors and made the supports for the rear wheels, I converted the rears from swivel to solid to make it easier to steer.
Completed painted and ready for dropping the saw on


All done

Fabulous work, You've got some nice toys there. That's excellent work on the fit up, that patience will come in very handy if you do tube work. On a side note, leaving the gap where the radius edge meets the end of the RHS gives a handy natural joint prep, especially if you plan to grind the welds flush.

Just something I did for my wife at Easter. Says I don't ever buy her flowers so here's one that should last a while. It's heavy 16 gauge. Hope she don't clobber me with it.

Friend of mine made a nice copper rose for last Valentines day. Posted it on facebook saying it was for a special person. Got a dilemma when there were several ladies thinking it was for them

See she must of found out that you bobbed out here sportster, now you have to make her flowers to make up for it. Nice job.

Since it is Easter here right now (Orthodox Easter does not coincide with Catholic Easter), it is a tradition to eat lamb (or goat) during Sunday.
This is grilled whole on a spit over an open coal fire. Usually we don't stay in Athens and go to the town my wife comes from but the weather has gone nuts and it is even colder there. I mean it freaking snowed last night where I live.

So I took the opportunity to build a rotisserie for Sunday. Not much welding (almost none ) though since I wanted to be able to disassemble it after Sunday.

2" SCHD 80, 6G ER70S-6 2.4mm rod (3/32). Ignore the undercut, it is simply because I could not be bothered to let it cool down between passes.

I just took a week off and went out western Queensland to a cattle station (ranch) for some fishing/hunting r&r and also went to a big birthday/Easter BBQ bash out there organised by some local mates. They spit roasted a sheep and a pig using bush ingenuity. The pig spit drive is an old washing machine motor and bunch of shafts and pulleys they had lying around to get the speed reduction, the fire box is an old bath tub. They welded up a frame and roof over it with 6013 rods. The sheep spit drive is a bought motor similar to yours but with a big welded fire box. They got out chain saws and cut down some tree timber (yellox box, ironbark etc). One joker got up at 4.30am to start the fires. 7am to meat was on the spit. Three blokes took turns looking after it all day. 6pm we were on the munch, it was an awesome day.

I have eaten lamb before but never an adult sheep..how is it?

It was definitely leaner. The leg meat was better than lamb. The meat off the body was a little stronger - a bit like goat. Once you got over it and washed it down with some "Great Northern Lager" it was all good.

Try Black Bear meat.

If you've ever eaten Bison, it's a similar flavor but about twice as intense.

A bit of species revenge, to kill and eat an animal that would kill and eat you.

Black bear....no flippin way I used to have a taxidermy business years ago and used to have to prep the skins for tanning and they are crawling with ticks and all kinds of bugs and stink like shit. If you ever saw how much a skinned bear resembles a human corpse you might take pause....blechhh!

I'm sure you only know what a skinned human corpse looks like from TV shows right? ......right?

You do not roast over a fire, you let the coal fire extinguish and then put on the meat.

Tell you what, you guys teach me how to make a BBQ (the proper one with the smoker) and I will teach you how to roast meat on a pick...

Its ok don't burst a dolmatie. The roasting was done over the coals and at the last the fire was built up for a short time to make sure the crackling was crisp. It was done by experts and the result was spectacular I assure you.

Taz, is it true in Greece the guest of honor gets to eat the eyes?

I was told that in Greece many years ago
