Repairing some steering components on an 1931 era Model A Ford calls for replacing some round steel rod balls onto the forged tie rod and radius rods by drilling out the old balls and inserting these replacement shanked balls into the drilled holes then TIG welding. What type of rod should we be using for the best strong weld

If it’s forged then it would probably just be 70s2 or 70s6. No different than forged pipe fittings. Watch your pre heat and interpass temps.
