Do you need to build up a section of the shaft so it can be machined back to the original size? Or is it broken?

This simple to do
Do not weld all one side then turn the shaft

Just start your weld bed then turn shaft weld like a screw by 1/4 turn

Some worn shafts more than one bed
Add extra thick this will help keep shaft straight and a good finish
Do not try filling after machining

Do not try welding in lathe it turns to fast and will do damage to the lathe
If start do this type a lot you build simple lathe that very slow
It would look like what a wood lathe you use the tool rest for the MIG gun

Again, many thanks for your information. I'ts been very helpful.

One question sir, i weld SS 410 as base material with SS 304 wire rod on the shaft. Its required to heat treatment after welding to reduce hardness in HAZ area to get more ductility of shaft ??
Maybe you can suggest how much temperature for, or any kind method.

Thanks, Regards.

Sorry mate, I can't offer you any technical info on the stainless steel. However every, check out the Esab website, Avesta website, sandvik welding for great technical tips.

You may want to rethink that filler choice, your setting your self up for failures.
