Does anyone know how or has someone actually successfully converted a DC only welding machine into a selectable AC/DC welding machine?

with a transformer based machine it would be possible.
quite a few stick welders are ac and dc selectable machines. if its not its not that hard to make it switchable.
then you need to add a HF unit to it. there is old 2nd hand ones around that you can wire in.
for a DC inverter i doubt it. you could bypass the rectifier but that leaves you with a very high frequency AC (assuming its AC and not just pulse) and then you still have to add HF.
your still not going to have AC balance etc.
i think your far better off just buying a separate AC/DC tig welder.

Thanks for the info. I just like to do projects to stay busy and to challenge myself. If I can do it, then great. If not, no big. It's only $50 lost. LOL
