AMP settings

I just learned aluminum TIG in March and was able to get an entry level alum welding position. Most of what I know is self taught from welding videos and from a background of some MIG welding.

I used a Syncrowave 250 to learn aluminum. The machines at work are older Syncrowave 250, 350 and 330.

What I’m a little confused about is the machine I learned on shows amps and it goes up to 310 Amps.

The machine I use at work with is a 250 as well but has a different configuration on the amps knob going from 0-100. I will assume this represents percentage of max amp output?

Is that correct?

do you have a foot pedal?
if so then its not a big deal, just set it high enough. let the puddle tell you if its hot enough.
without a foot pedal, thats rather tough to weld aluminum with. but again puddle tells all, ignore the numbers.

i found amps can vary with grade of aluminum. i was welding 1/8" sheet and had to weld a 1/4" bung in. the bung melted easier than the sheet did. so i stopped worrying so much about setting amps to a certain amount.
