Can anyone tell me where the welding helmet/face mask used in this video is available. Looks like a nice inexpensive solution to me.

You're referring to the pancake mask, I've never seen them online but then I haven't looked

That's great. Thanks a lot.

Is there any particular advantage to this type of helmet?

Never used or seen one or spoken with anyone that has. May have advantages. I think it might take some getting used to having a block of wood strapped to your face. Probably won't fall off your head in out of position work but not suitable for PAPR attachment.

afaik the purpose is to block out the sunlight coming in the back and have the shields on the important sides.
primary used for pipeline.
i would not call them budget, more like specialised.
for regular welding just stick to the normal helmets. if you need a cheap helmet then you can buy normal fixed shade helmets far cheaper than the pancakes.

Yes they’re for welding outside in bright sunlight. With a regular hood you can get glare on the inside lens from the sun behind you making it pretty much impossible to see what your welding.

For inside use a nice light hood is 10x more comfortable in my opinion. Plus you can flip it up and down much easier.
