So I'm thinking of TIG welding with 309 for this, any other thoughts? The part is magnetic.

Why 309? Why not ER70? Best to also check the hardness of that part before welding it. May need to anneal/temper it.

Gun bluing won’t work on 309 stainless will it? Since bluing is basically a controlled rust I believe. Correct me if I’m wrong..

Went with the er70 as CJ suggested, part wasn't harden and no bluing will be applied.

Good repair, you won't have any probs with that.
I had an M17 Eddystone long time ago, the scope mount fell off, screws broke in the receiver. I was out in the bush and no way to work on it or get parts. So I went in the home base workshop and gave it the old blat blat with their mig straight onto the receiver, Er70S-6. Worked a treat. I left it that way for a couple of years till I traded it.

I'd like to find something constructive to say about that but really at a loss for words ! if the responsible party is ever found they are truly in need of a pineapple !
