Tig welding tips, questions, equipment, applications, instructions, techniques, tig welding machines, troubleshooting tig welding process
I’ve been MiG welding for the last 15 years and I thought that would give me a little experience when I jumped in to tig welding Well I’m so lost I just picked up an everlast 255 ext And I just can’t seem to even figure out if this machine is working OK I just want to get to the point where I could practice a little bit my goal is to be tigging Mostly sheet metal and car frames and suspension I guess what I’m asking if somebody could please give me some basic settings on DC to start practicing On one eight steel plate And maybe even on some 16 gauge sheet-metal I’m not sure because I’m so lost if The machine is even working right
there is not much in the way of settings.Eloza777 wrote:Or maybe somebody could give me some super simple tig settings That are good for practicing with the number nine torch
torch on DCEN, select DC. no need for any pulse settings. main thing to adjust of course is amps. also post gas flow. make sure the the tungsten stops glowing before the gas turns off.
just have enough amps so you can get a puddle in a few seconds.
that should be able to test the machine.
for actual welds need thickness and joint type.
other critical things in setup is tungsten type, tungsten size, tungsten stick out and tungsten grind angle.
tweak it until it breaks

So, are you using a pedal. Do you have a tank of pure argon hooked up to it? Pictures of your setup and your front panel display with your settings?

First ... PURE ARGON. for shielding.
look over the manual or download one to learn the functions available.
there are several "boxes" with functions and there are arrows used to toggle thru the functions.
top left is settings that may already be set or you can set your own, and hold the toggle button for 3 seconds to lock your settings.
top center is your amps...adjusted by the bottom knob.
top right will set the machine for several tig welding of aluminum (ac) or dc for steel
right side second one down, set it for pedal using the arrow to the side. the lights will illuminate each time you touch the arrow.
right side , 3rd one down is for pulse. Don't get too antsy .. YET..keep it on off
center box below amps is for stick welding.
left side, second row down,,,keep it on normal.
the last readouts on the bottom is controlled by the green arrow and moves you thru gas control, pulse, balance and spot welding...just touch the green arrow and watch how it toggles across the graph. Each time a light is lit, you can make an adjustment to that parameter by using the bottom knob and watching the digital readout.
if you want, you can pm me your phone number and I'll be happy to call you and walk you thru the settings. I have a couple everlast machines right now.
