OK I am stupid. I only have a year of tig under my belt but in the last vid Jody said it was 1/4 tube and he was at 120 to 135 amps. With the general rule of 1 amp per 1 thousandth of thickness it would logically seem he was too cold. But the welds looked great. I really don't mean to sound stupid but can someone explain this to me. I am not bashing or calling anyone out just want all the information I can get to better my welding.

Hey there,

I am not sure about this guide rule either. Maybe up to a certain thickness. .250 thou = 250 amps, that seems a bit hot to me. I've tigged 3/8 steel plate on no more than 175- 180 and that was more than enough. Just a rough guide for a start on thin stuff, I suppose. Maybe for Aluminium it is more relevant. Maybe Jody can give us a little clarity.

Regards Mick
