I'd like to attempt a small TIG welding project - welding cast iron to steel.

What TIG settings would you recommend?

What type of filler rod is best?

thanks a bunch

If in not mistaken the filler rod is 309L to bridge the gap in the chemical makeup of the two metals.

But I might be mixing up cast -carbon steel with carbon steel-stainless.

As far as settings go would need to know thickness of materials and joint type to make a recommendation on that.

you may also want to consider brazing it rather than welding.

I would suggest Aluminum-Bronze filler and use AC current. Jody did a video on that a couple of years ago. I used his idea on a project about 18 months ago, and it worked very well.
