zinc coated brass-suggestions?

howdy all-
buddy welding here-have a fishing reel the spot welds broke on. The ole boy said he'd prefer not to JB weld it, so here I am.
It has 2 bases, one completely broke, the other not far from it. Thinking of drilling out the old spot weld, basically doing a plug weld with copper rod. I have oxy-fueled these sort of things, but not TIg (yet). I have a Dynasty 200SD, any suggestions on cup size,amps? going 1/16 2%Thor, but if another suggestion's out there-I am listening!lol
