Hey guys well I finally figured out how to upload pics so I thought I would share what I have been working on at we ork. Just got a order in for 350 of these aluminum cabinets. Theu are nothing to special but kinda fun. They made of .125 5052 aluminum the main thing is that thry must be water tight and almost everything is welded on both sides. The welds aren't the greatest parts are really dirty from the oil the turret guy spray on the blanks when pubching then out and not allowed to clean them anymore cause of the large orders.

No but actually I did get a really large raise though. I actually quit fron this place two years ago and went into aerospace and than making dairy tanks and piping. But the for the two years I was gone they kept bugging me offering me more money, finally they made me offer I couldn't refuse, a 60 percent increase.

You would be very surprised. From what I have seen just from working with a lot different welders and giving a lot of weld tests there is not that many good welders out there, especially in sheet metal. There is a lot of great pipe welders out tgere It seems like, it was fun to learn from them when I was working at the dairy place but sheet metal there isn't many. My company has been hiring for 6 months, I have given 40 or so weld test, we have hired 6 and fired 6 lol. You would be surprised how much companies want to keep good welders even though it may not seem like it.

Thanks mate. I have watched a few come and a lot go. The ones who say how easy welding is are usually the worst.

That is very true. Usually the ones that talk a big game are the ones that are insecure about their abilities. It is easy to suvk at but there is a difference between people who are not as good but care and are willing to improve and those who are not good and think the y are amazing. Way to many of later at least in minnesota.

Same around here. The last two cocky goldenarms we hired didn't last a month. The laid-back old-guy millwright-mechanic could weld circles around them. And the new-hire that I think will stick was quite humble about his welding, said he hadn't picked up a torch since before he went in the Navy, and proceeded to prove it during his weld test.

He was sure he wasn't getting hired, but this time we were just looking for the basics (can you set it and operate it?), and trainability. He's coming along nicely. And, he asks questions.... good questions, and seems to understand the answers.

I like the kid (gawd, do I feel old... I just called a military veteran a kid), and I hope he stays.
