Tig vertical help

Any advice on welding carbon steel with mig any techniques or anything seems like I can walk the cup the same as I can on flat

mig or tig? never heard of walking the cup while mig welding.....If mig, lead gun aprox.3 to 5 deg., and try increasing amperage if the weld doesn`t want to flatten out,the force of the arc can force the molten puddle forward, resulting in a flatter weld. If you are new at welding, try your own techniques....ron

Presuming you mean MIG, the vertical up will give you better penetration, but vertical down can often provide a neater finish.

If you meant TIG, then vertical up should be fine, but what type of joint are you attempting, butt, fillet etc? If butt, make sure you set the correct gap (e.g. the same as the diameter of the filler rod, or slightly more)
