Don't get to do as much hand welding as I once did, so ran some stringers, a little rusty also took some in action pics using the speedglas I much prefer my Jackson for tig work but it's at work.

Someone told me once that they fooled a mate into believing that you can get arc flash from looking at pics and vids on the computer....

Good one Mick - but are you going to let that " Jackson beats Speedglas " slide by you ?

For tig work absolutely, 4 sensors better than 3. Many times with that speedglas I would get "flashed" never happened with the Jackson.

Now for overhead stick the new head gear on the speedglas wins hands down.

I hear the Jackson is really good - sadly not sold here ! had a Speedlas for years - getting a bit tired now - but it's been a very good reliable helmet & I've been very happy with it - I don't know about the newer ones - the few people I know that would pay the price for the fancy ones have had nothing but trouble with them - don't see them around as much now - but that maybe just there are so many makes to choose from.

I had a helper CONVINCED that helium bottles weigh less when full. He swore he could feel the difference. I used to challenge him to gauge a bottle by picking it up. He would, and whatever he guessed, full, empty, or in-between, I told him he was right. This was three years ago. I bet he still believes it!

I wont. Fiber(Honeywell) and Phillips Gold separate the welder from the collector.

So I'm not a welder because I prefer an auto dark? Hmm guess all those years as a boilermaker don't count, along with aerospace and ------- work huh?

Wes917,
I like both your welds and the arc shots.

A helmet does not make or break a welder. I don't know how some can stand those old heavy helmets, BUT I will not say they are not true welders any more than someone who used a ADF. Give me a ADF and I can run circles, production wise, around a passive. I collect and use both.

There was another thread recently about hoods. I have a lot of them. I've gotten away from the AD's mainly because of my line of work. I don't like the flicker you get from an AD. Honestly I'm not sure where my speedglass is anymore. It's mainly my pipeliner or my pancake now.
