I've used 5356 on 6061plate, mainly because its what @Braehill kept handing me when I was still at home lol. Personally, I feel it flows differently than 4043, and the end result looks a tad duller, but they weld very similarly. If you plan on anodizing the parts you are welding, it will Anodize and not turn black/brown like 4043 will after you weld something with it. Don't know what the SuperGlaze bit is about, but ER would lead one to believe that its a TIG rod.

5356 is my go-to rod for 6061 and 6063. One benefit on 6061 is that it's less prone to cracking from rapid cooling on thicker sections. The weld will be closer to the properties of 60-series alloys, as well.

That said, though, you can use it on 3003 without issues. (Keeping in mind the weld will be harder than the base metal, which can be an issue if the part must flex).

I've not used the Lincoln, but I agree with John. I've always had good results with other Lincoln-branded rod/wire.

Brand differences can be much bigger than one would expect for supposedly the same alloy. Welding 6061 plate overhead, I ran out Oxford 5356, grabbed a half-box of Alcotec 5356, and proceeded to burn myself repeatedly with drip-outs. After the fourth burn, I threw them away, and sent our purchaser after another box of Oxford.

Steve,
Your contradicting yourself ....
You ran out of Radnor, not Oxford.

LOL!

Quite right. We got the Radnor from NWS. I have no idea where the Alcotec came from (though I know where it went... It's a part of my beer can now  ). Oxford is what they had at AirGas, a block from work, and is pretty much all we buy now.

I guess my memory can't be trusted as a witness in last year's crime...

That's the second time I've had to correct you on that 11' weld of 4g 3/8 6061.
You did it in 3 passes if I remember right.

Is that the one???
