309 Pickling

If you weld low carbon steel to 304 staino pipe with 309, is it advisable to pickle the weld and HAZ on the staino?
I have to cut down a valve hand wheel that is too large to fit in it's new tight location. I bent up a piece of 1/2" s/s pipe to use as the wheel but the spokes are pressed mild. I will paint 2-pack afterwards.

Coldman, I really doubt pickling has any advantage.

Your weld will outlive the valve's service life with a good cleaning and a coat of primer and paint.

Just an opinion.

Thanks for that Steve,
I am of the same opinion, I just wasn't 100% sure that I would not get any bubbling up under the paint in the future if I didn't pickle first. Paint is about to go on now.
Thanks again.

The pickling paste will corrode the mild steel, will it not? Wire brushing is a easy answer.
