I have been wanting a welding table to keep outside my garage in the warm months. I took an aluminum bread cart and cut it down. I tack welded a piece of 1/4 aluminum for the top and added some 1/8 plate on the sides for support. This is not mreant for real heavy work.

Time will if this is a good idea.

Hey no fair, I was goin to start a thread on a aluminum welding table :(
I think you will be fine. We could state the obvious about weight or denting it but I think you know all about that. I want a 3/8" or 1/2" top maybe 24"x48" for light stuff and aluminum parts that could be tacked to the table if need be. I already have some 1/8" sheet I use as a sacrifice or to keep SS from contamination.

I bet an aluminum table would be a great heatsink for welding thin stuff... As previously said, it will get warm quick. My over-engineering side wonders if anybody has built a water cooled welding table for such a purpose...

Yes I have heard of water cooled fixtures. I have been drawing up a water cooled fixture and am getting ready to send it to the machine shop. Honestly for me this is one if those cool ideas that I just want to build. I believe I have a two week lead time and when it goes forward I will post plans and pictures. Might be a good patent idea :D
