Welding Tips and Tricks

I had to weld together some hat hooks on one of our cut outs. I made the hooks out of 1/8" flat stock and the cut out design is in 14 gauge. I bent the flat stock to make a hook then welded it to the back of the 14 gauge. I used 1/16" ER70S2 filler and the torch switch with the machine set to about 90 amps and welded both sides of the flat stock. Both beads were 3" long and it was a lap joint with the 1/8" on top of the 14 gauge. Enough rambling, I am happy with the way my tig welds have progressed in the past few months that I decided to post the ugliest bead of the 20 I ran tonight.

I forget what machine you have but can you adjust your amperage with a peddle?
That would be the only thing I can complain about, controlling heat better. Keep it up bud!!

Thanks, I have a pedal but hate using it because I can't set max amps on it or the machine so it is a full range pedal. I get to staring at the arc and push the pedal down farther and farther so I just use the switch and set the amps and go at it. I have been practicing with the pedal a little but until I buy the upgraded pedal from Everlast, it is harder for me to use the pedal.

If you're going to buy a new pedal, check into the SSC, nicest pedal I've ever used.

I will check them out, as long as they will work on my machine.

I think they made the upgraded one for awhile for Everlast, but they don't make the one they offer now from what I understand. I think mine for my Miller was around $170, nicer than my old Miller one for sure.

I just looked and they offer one on Everlast website. It was $160 on there.

I think the problem is the machine not the pedal. Email Oleg and double check, but I'm pretty sure some of the machines have the pedal override the panel knob because of how its wired internally.

The machine I have comes without the ability to set max amps and Everlast emphasized it. The pedal doesn't have a knob on it either. As soon as I plug the pedal in it automatically goes down to 5 amps and when you push it all the way down it goes to max even if the knob is bottomed out.
