Stainless Filler Selection Charts

I’ve been looking at four different Stainless filler selection charts available on the internet:

http://tourismwindow.com/weld/files/Sta ... _Chart.pdf
http://www.advancedweldingsupply.com/do ... 0Guide.pdf
http://www.brazing.com/products/Weld_St ... _chart.asp
http://www.harrisproductsgroup.com/~/me ... ection.pdf

Does anyone know if there is meant to be a difference between the X and Y axis? For example:
310 on the y-axis >>> 304 on the x-axis = Use 309
However!
304 on the y-axis >>> 310 on the x-axis = Use 308

I’ve re-drawn the table and highlighted which do (green) and don’t (red) match.

In addition each of the tables are slightly different…

Anyone got any ideas?

It would help if you posted the application, and whether or not your work is to be inspected. Building a nuclear furnace is going to be much stricter than stitching up an exhaust for a hot-rod. But when in doubt, I say use 309L :)

I'm just learning at the moment and only have 304. Was just curious to know why so many of these reference charts appear to be inconsistent...

Because it's not a perfect world, and different people with different experiences have different opinions.
