Just got the new everlast 210 ext 2015 model. Having troubles trying to figure out a aluminin setup with the new panel. 1/4 inch aluminum plate. 17 ck torch with number 9 cup and gas lens. Any suggestions would help. Thanks u

The rule of 33 is for pulse settings, however alum is a little different. With the alum I'd do 180amps, 75% peak, 25% background an 1-2pps, dab at the pulse, 3/32" tung, 3/32" filler

Why try and pulse on 1/4" aluminum plate? the machine is already underpowered as it is. Just crank that sucker up and let it run.

Pulse will limit the heat you put into the part.

Put it in straight up AC, full pedal, and let it eat.

Noddy c'mon now, unkind. Never mind about any car, that guy sure can weld, he's keen as, and helps others out heaps. And that's the main reason why he's here, (and the one that matters most).

if you are going to be welding 1/4 plate regularly, you might consider a torch that can handle more amperage. also, nix

the pulse.

OK - I meant no offense by it - I expect AK will take it as a joke - sometimes stuff does'nt come across in text the same as you meant it in your mind ( plus UK sense of humor difference ) - I always respected him & his work ( well except the 6013 hate thing ! ) I like his video's too - just never thought he was that young - I grew up on a farm & welded from an early age so can relate with him - just I'm turned 50 now & feel it some days! Funny thing is you get a mental image of how you expect someone to look based on how they write & most of the pictures look nothing like I thought - anyway sorry AK if comment was out of order.

Don't pulse aluminum. Really no bead esp on 1/4" slow pulse allows to much cooling.

what about using pulse on really thin stuff 032 040 aluminum?
my syncrowave 250 does not have that feature but i
just got a htp 221 and it does have pulse.

Experiment yourself moto and see what works. If you use a slow pulse, I. E. One pps or slower it can help with your cadence and you can eliminate it once you get the rhythm down. The background current settings have more to do with puddle cooling when using a slow pulse.

I figured you didn't have any issues welding aluminum with the Syncrowave, I was just commenting on some things you can use the pulse for, even though that is not the intended use.

I like to play around with pulse just to see what it does to the puddle and the bead profile. I have never found a situation where I was welding anything that I absolutely needed pulse for, but it helped get back into the rhythm after not welding for a few months.

If you play with low pps you might want to increase the delay time on your helmet. Can be disturbing if the lens switches with the pulses.

hey bud,

I just used one of those new model 210ext tigs and here are the settings I used for an aluminum repair and they worked out pretty well on a 1/2" thick piece for a buildup repair:

AC balance 40
AC freq 77
I used a #8 gas lens (only because I was using it on steels) with argon set to around 20cfh ( probly could have got by with 15 cfh but wanted to extend the electrode for filming.
I set the start amps to around 25 so I would get a crisp start. but if you were welding aluminum sheet metal, probly a lower start amperage would be safer.
