Welding Tips and Tricks

I have been reading about other tig rigs here....and this one fills all the bells and whistles I will {want to} need...and as far as my power limit to the hangar will allow. It hits my price limit too {$1300}. Thing is I want to be able to make fuel cells and other AC buzzing required noise to make aly parts. I do not want an entry level machine that will weld a few jobs and go tits up. But on the other hand I don't have any spare body parts to sell to get something blue or red either. Cant locate much about them...I know Jody has a couple of these machines. Any suggestions here?

250EX since 2013 still humming and welding.

I have an Everlast TIG, but not that model; I've been happy with mine (altho I had never TIGged before in my life prior to this machine). From hanging around on the Everlast forum, I can tell you the 225LX is not their most popular machine, altho I couldn't say why. Maybe it's price points, who knows. From a user popularity standpoint, the most popular machines seem to be the 200DX and the 250EX, altho the 210EXT is also rising. The 200DX has all the bells and whistles and the 250EX is a workhorse with all the bells and whistles; apparently both models have been upgraded recently.

Your post says you're wanting to build fuel cells- how thick is that aluminum? Will you want to go thicker? I'm guessing you've already looked at duty cycle ratings for the various machines.

I'll PM you the name of a guy at Everlast who can give you more info about the 225LX.

Called them up late yesterday and was ready to commit to a purchase. The guy said that model was discontinued and left me with little information about what was available and he sounded like he didn't really want to talk...so I may just look another direction. I was told their website was not up to date.....
Mostly wanted for AC and pulse function to weld .050" sheet and possibly thicker odds at times. Can't see me going to war with anything over 1/4" thick....

Have you considered the AHP200X? Or the Tweco 186. Both will give you high speed pulse, frequency control and balance control.

I have an Everlast 250 EX . Very good machine . I had a small issue with the first one, they were good about it and I have put it thru the ringer ...a lot of long days . If you're going to do aluminum, look into a water cooled setup .
I started with a CK17 ...didn't wana spend the extra $$$ . If you do any quantity of aluminum or long projects, you'll probably end up going water cooled sooner than later . The extra cost is rough but worth it . The torch never gets warm to the tough . A 17 or 26 will get hot with aluminum , then you have to stop before fingers and thumb roast .

Had plans on making a cooler. I just would like to get a machine soon to start making parts I need. I will try and make a few more calls.

I made a 10 gallon stainless pot reservoir cooler. Had a few occasions where I used it all day 3 consecutive days.
Made it with a Shurflo pump . Torch never gets hot .

When you call, ask to speak to Oleg. He has always been more than accommodating whenever I had an issue, and like I had said in a different discussion, called my father within 5 minutes of getting his phone number to discuss a machine and subsequently purchase it.

I also have the 250ex (a 2014 model IIRC, may be a late 2013. Received it in February of last year, and as SubwayRocket has, have put it through the ringer.) I had an issue with the new style pedal, and had a part number to source a new potentiometer locally in minutes of calling their tech support line.

All in all, with a water cooled 20 series torch, their import pedal (they may have switched to SSC again since then) and the water cooler, I was into the whole package under $2k after wheeling and dealing about the price.

Water cooling is a super, super nice upgrade I'd you can swing it, and you can't go wrong. I would order an air-cooled torch as well, just so your not stuck if you have a job where you can't take the water cooler as well, but for shop work, you can't beat the versatility of the water cooled setup. You can weld at 200+ amps on AC and still hold the torch after 10-15 minutes.
