hard facing

i am hard facing tire grinder teeth and iam having trouble with the tip of the teeth cracking and breaking iam using stoody 31 rods I am preheating any suggestions
Lots of applications these days use a more friendly weldable type of material for the adapter, that gets welded on to the body of the machine and a slip on tooth that is the real hard bit. They are held on with a pin through the adapter. Apart from that redesign of the item, maybe try a buffer layer of some other kind of weld metal. Like a stainless steel.
