Stainless to cast iron (Ni-resist) tips?

Hey guys,

I'm considering welding my wastegate flange straight to my turbine housing. I've seen this done and anecdotally at least, successfully. The turbo is a garret and I found out the housings are made of Ni-resist cast iron.

Any tips for making this a lasting, successful weld? I could use a mild steel intermediate pipe to the stainless flange if that would help. I imagine pre-heating the housing would help? How far?

Thanks!

This paper seems to indicate nickel fill will do the trick.

There is always aluminum bronze though since it doesn't sound like something that will see high stresses.

Thanks, I'll give the nickel rod a shot!
