Welding Tips and Tricks

Need to weld 17-4ph to 316 stainless. 1- piece is 4-1/2" solid 17-4 weld to 316 flange. Have tried E-308L no peneration
Tried preheat 400 the 17-4 tig rod, wrap in blankets to slow cool and have cracks
Suggestion

Yeah it sucks like Inconel. No pre-heat, keep interpass down around 240-250 and post weld annealing by the book.

Might want to give ERNICr-3 a try. It is probably a better match than 308L.
