What are y’alls techniques for tie ins (stops/re-starts) for Fcaw-G? I’ve had success w/ both but trying to decide what way is the most consistently successful avoiding lack of fusion 🤔. 1) starting about an 1/8 behind the crater and laying it in there, and then..

2) starting up ahead the crater on the cold side and stepping back into it and back out….

Cheers!

Whether it’s stick or dual shield, EVERY tie-in I’ve done for code level structural work I have ground and feathered my stops/starts. It adds time but guarantees results and passing inspection. There are lots of situations where it is not necessary and starting ahead then backing over works perfectly well (I’ve done this on non-code work constantly). But if it’s significant structural and X-ray-ed, feathering is my only method.

Yeah makes sense….i forgot to mention the all important part, that for this particular test (cwb 1gf) no metal removal is allowed, only a wire wheel etc… both techniques have worked for “passing”, but think I’ll stick with stepping back into it….just fear trapping slag is all…

Thanks for the response, good stuff!
