Mick,

That looks like someone forgot to turn the gas on, and was too hung-over or high to notice for a good 30 seconds...

I don't think anyone could be that high.

A certain "ahem...mechanical" welder managed to rip the gas shroud off and kept going for about 3 more meters. Fun times.

And you think, "No one could be that high."?

Mick,
It should be programmed to stop at a certain gas flow drop....right????

I'd say it is ......now. One may also think it would be programmed not to burn through 10mm plate or not continue welding on a multi run fillet when the preceeding runs are missing. (=molten metal water fall)

Well unless it has a camera sensor it will continue to run. Most cameras only take a image at the very beginning so after it starts it would be up to the operator. Of course laser sensors would also work. Either way it would take more time and programming.

Was the operator not watching?

Who knows what they do. Its laser, but very temperamental. But that was a while back now, but its reasonably dialed now.....sort of.

Here are some of my mig welds. These are some hose reels I made from 16 gauge sheet metal and 14 gauge tread plate. They will mount on my welding cart. I would appreciate any feedback. I'm a new hobbyist welder. I taught myself from watching you tube videos.

Me too - when possible (good fit-up), I mig weld like this:
(from a set of three wheel dolly "skates" I made in a hurry one day - needed them)

my vertical up and Chinese vertical with .045" (and possibly 1/16") dual shield. I rock .045" but I'm still working on that 1/16".

Love to see some 1/16 dual shield Vert-Up.

Doing some flux-core welding on a couple of things pending QC

Running 3 beads for my own benefit. 1st and 2nd pass 334A/30,8V. Third pass is 317A/29,6V, because of the fear of undercut, and the weld mainly connecting to the thinner 10mm flat bar. Interpass temp. is 100-150C.

And here's a screw up. Lost my trail for a second. I don't think this one will pass QC, so I might redo it.

C'mon!

You stopped once! Or else you'd still be welding, and wouldn't have the picture!

What, you can't weld with one hand and take your phone out of your pocket and snap a pic with the other hand????

Small project came up and I thought it would be the perfect time to fire up the old Hobart Handler 140!

Nice job Matt, that looks great.
Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.

I primed it good and painted it with automotive paint and clear coated it. Turned out slick.
