I have been trying to weld an end cap on some 2 1/2" pipe. I tried to do this going uphill. I get these big globs. I've tried turning down my settings and it didn't seem to help. It's 1/4" thick pipe with .030 wire.

Yes for sure I get a much better looking weld going down hill. Any help for going uphill?

The wiring melting will "sag" due to gravity. About the only way to overcome that is to whip across the middle and sweep up, letting the puddle fill in behind you. It still won't be as clean as downhill, but if you must go vertical up, it will help reduce the bulging.

Thanks for the help. I'll just keep working at it and do more downhill with MIG.
