Hi,
I'm learning to weld and was experimenting with some T-joints.
I cut and etched them but realized that I don't know what I'm looking for. To me it looks like good fusion but I wouldn't really know now, being a total noob and all
I'd love some feedback on them.
Thanks
Einar

They look just fine especially if you have limited experience - possibly leg length is a bit short on some but that depends on what the application is & for practice it's OK - I would say you have it about right - just work on consistency .
Thanks for the feedback. I was trying out different settings and travel speeds.noddybrian wrote:... I would say you have it about right - just work on consistency .
If you would have to pick one out of them as "the best" which would it be? If I had something to aim for I could go back to my notes and try to repeat it.
Thanks again!

Apart from one weld that is slightly small in the top leg, these look perfect. What you are looking for is a right angle triangle drawn in the cross section of weld. The base lines follow the plates to the intersection and the hypotenuse is across the face of the weld. The biggest triangle you can draw in there is the effective throat of the weld, and directly corresponds to the strength of the weld. Anything past the base lines into the plate is penentration and fusion and is the aim also. Your welds so the perfect example of this. Small adjustments to your settings and techniques are all that is needed to smooth out the face a little, but apart from that, it's all good. What kind of welder do you have?
Kindest regards, mick

Ok so I'm trying to butt weld some rectangular tubing now.
I'd appreciate some feedback on this. It's front and back of the weld with the front side being shot on the short side of the tube.
Thanks in advance.
