This was the wire required to hard face a job that came in the shop. I welded with Ni55 before which is the most comparable wire to this. Was wondering if anyone has ran it and how they dialed it in to eliminate porosity. The data sheet says preheat to 600-800 degrees and allow to slightly cool before welding. I’ve done that and troubleshot everything on my machine and still not having luck. Trickiest wire I’ve ever ran. Hoping someone in this forum has had luck.

What other requirements does this job entail? What are your required CTWD, travel speed, gun angle? Was the wire brand new, new stock?

Procedure just calls for preheat, 1/8” buildup for machining and the AMPs should be between 245-475. Cor-Met is the brand and it was a brand new spool when I started. I’ve tried various gun angles and travel speeds can’t seem to get this wire to run nice. 5/8” Nozzle and 1/16” contact tip. I’d say stick out is about 3/8” and gas flow is about 30 CFH.

It might have been a new spool when you opened it, but was it new stock?

From what I have read, 1/16" cored wire needs about 1" CTWD. 3/8" is what you use with solid wire mig in short circuit. You should call them to ask.

Gas flow typically needs to be 45-60 CFH when you consider that you probably need about a 1" stick out. Again, you need to call the manufacturer to ask. 30 CFH won't cut it IMO. Too low of a CO2 content is what gave me worm-tracks on gas shielded flux core E71T-1M wire, but once the CO2 content gets over 25% and the CFH is there to deliver it to the puddle, the worm-tracks went bye-bye.
