3/8 steel plate - 1/4 backing bar fcaw-g settings?

I’m running 25.5 V & 335 WFS on 3/8 1gf with a 1/4 backing bar and having some issues getting consistent penetration? Tried running it @ 26.5v & 365 wfs but was also having problems getting through? Eventhough it looked like it was going in good, maybe my travel speed/gun angle/stick out is off?

Any suggestions on different setting that work for you guys?

Thanks!

For me, the two most critical aspects for FCAW are stick out and gun angle. Stick out needs to be longer than MIG, and gun angle needs to be straighter than you think.

Without seeing your welds, it’s impossible to determine other helpful hints…?

Lead welder say they look fine….but obviously not getting through all the way….try to keep a 5deg drag angle and going at a 45….maybe I’m angling back more than I think and piling back into the puddle more than I think? Maybe should try putting a bit more focus down into the back bar than going right into where the edges meet? Or guess could run a bit hotter in the meantime to get through to hopefully make up for not having the technique part totally ironed out….who knows haha
