Got a call from a local guy who runs a small business making aluminum mailbox posts. He had to let his full time guy go and needed a welder to come in and finish a job that he was midway through. As I have never welded aluminum with a MIG setup, this sounded like a unique opportunity for me to get up to speed with using a Millermatic 350P and a pull gun.

Since, I have never welded aluminum with a MIG machine before, I watched several of "you know who's" videos on the subject. When I got to the place, I was given a brief introduction to the machine by the owner, who knew very little about welding. After that it was go time for, Nils. It wasn't more than about 60 seconds before I was laying some pretty nice fillet welds against a 1/8th inch wall tube and 3/8s plate of 6061.

Using a MIG setup for thick production aluminum jobs works very well and I was quite impressed, not to mention grateful for this opportunity to learn a little more. Making some coin doing it was nice too!
