we hear about voltage all the time in mig but what about amperage.
i was reading about preqaulified welding procedures and essential elements needed. and amperage wasn't listed, im just sort of wondering why its ignored.
on a welder like a miller invision 354mp you have inductance settings that can change the amperage.
but what about millermatics and all other machines with selector switches for the power settings.
do they have a set amperage and does only the voltage change.
does anyone know the power values on the power settings only for say a millermatic 185 ( i dont have an owners manual)

Hey texican. with any wire fed process or constant voltage machine, your amperage, is your wire speed. the more inches per minute or ipms, the more amperage. amperage is the number of electrons flowing past a given point every second. voltage is the amount of pressure pushing the electrons. brian

you should be able to find your manual here: http://www.millerwelds.com/service/ownersmanuals.php

if you need to dail in your amperage the easy way to do it is to use a clamp on amp meter on you ground wire and have a friend or coworker dail you in wile you are welding
