bought a lincoln 140 mig and trying to teach myself how to weld. trying to weld some 3/4 tube together. as soon as gun touches metal it burns up my wire...getting alot of splatter and popping. initially had current set of "D" and wire speed on 3. tried adjusting but still same issue. have a good ground. appreciate any thoughts.

Burning back like that means your wire speed is too slow for the amperage. Turn your speed up or your voltage down.

If your wire stick out is a 1/2" when you start welding, your wire stick out should be a 1/2" when you stop welding.

I've done this once or twice and forgot to turn the gas on.
