What welding projects are you working on? Are you proud of something you built?
How about posting some pics so other welders can get some ideas?

Hi. I'm pretty new at welding but want to try a project I've been thinking about for quite some time. I'm wanting to build some kitchen bar stools but I'm unsure of what would be the recommended steel thickness or gauge. I was thinking 1x1 square tube at 13 gauge. Does anyone? have any opinions or suggestions on material/size/gauge to where it is super strong but not super heavy? Thanks for any feedback and suggestions!

If you could post a photo or print it would be easier to recommend something.

1" sq tube 13 guage should be plenty strong, but I would prefer to see the design of the stool first.

Hi Richard. Thanks for the reply. Here is an example that I found on a google search similar to what I have in mind. It looks like in the example it was built mostly with angle iron and I'm thinking of 1" sq tube. The other thing I was thinking have different from the example was tapering the legs in to where the seat is...if I explained well enough. Basically there would be a slight angle from the feet to the seat. It would be about 31" high from floor to seat as well. Hopefully that gives you enough info to give any more suggestions.

Thanks
James
