What welding projects are you working on? Are you proud of something you built?
How about posting some pics so other welders can get some ideas?

Here is a railing I just finished and installed on Sunday :)

Scrolls were bent in the shop, all cuts with a bandsaw, 1963 Airco did the tig welding, I just watched :D

To weld on bolting tabs, and locate the holes in the posts to weld, I use one flat piece of metal to bolt the tabs to for welding, and to lay on the posts to transfer punch.

This way I only have to measure once and they fit perfect :D

That's fine work!

It's been years since I did any decorative balustrades and banistrades, and mine were rarely so decorative. Maybe a custom gate or two.

It kind-of makes me miss the work; To have the outcome be artistic, rather than merely functional.

Thanks Steve :D

Not my usual sort of job, but I like how it all worked out - a little creative "artsy" work is kind of nice :)

....wait, is there such a thing as a "usual" anything?

Having to make it fit within about 1/8" all around was a little stressful though I have to admit.

I thought CAD stood for "crayons and desks", and I have a light-powered calculator like you show in the last image.

It doubles as a graphics engine.

Dave,
I'm going to tell you like I tell my kids, take care of your shit and it will last longer. I have one of those pencils that you have in the last picture and it has been used every day since 1996, no kidding, same one.

Nice work and I hope it took you longer than just one Sunday to build and install that or I must be doing things wrong.

Len
Now go melt something.

Thanks :) And it took me three Sundays to finish, including installation.

Very nice job on this, I used to work for a fence company, did a bunch of railings of different types.
You are very skilled, that came out great!

Thank you :)

I really don't have much experience with this type of work - I normally just do random repairs and small stuff for people just to keep the red in my checkbook a little smaller :D

This may be a simple iron railing project but it turned out very elegant in its simplicity if I should say so, very nice indeed !! ;)

I'm glad someone appreciated the whole joke!

The pen as a "light powered" calculator, and the pen and rule as a "graphics engine" went past a LOT of techie types.

Oh I like a good calculator, but the mechanical pencil is the only "graphics engine" I understand :D

Yes, the top is rectangle tubing, square tubing for the posts, 1/2" solid square for pickets and such, 3/16" x 1/2" flat stock scrolls.
