What welding projects are you working on? Are you proud of something you built?
How about posting some pics so other welders can get some ideas?

Here's a truck I worked on this summer.
Early 50's duece n a 1/2 fire truck.
Taking the platform off the back and installing a hitch, something beefy to hook to, and pull with.

For the front we're putting a pto winch between the framerails.
One that is made for these truck.

Anyway, lotsa pics, no need for me to explain further.

Enjoy.

Just a couple welders and a couple of big hammers and torches.

Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it.

So I unbolted that deck off the back, and welded that crack up on the mount.
found a tweacked peice of ten inch channel for the back.
Just welding it too the flatbar.
1/8" 7018 stringer for the first pass, then airhammer the slag out, and two more passes on top. 1/8" good n hot. It is 3/8" to 1/2" plate.....
Yes I weave.
Then just slip a 24" reciever tube in thru the hole (After I notched the 3/4" plate) and welded it right where the pintle used to bolt.

So here's the winch.
Bolts between the frame rails.
Those two plates I drilled above are spacers for 1 end.

The winch will be driven by a drive shaft coming from the side of the transmisson, sorta like a front driveshaft coming from a tcase.
And the Cable will need taken off and spooled on from the bottom before it can be used.
Truck we took it off of had open frame rails so clearance from a bumper wasn't a concern.

We haven't got the pto unit put on yet.
It'll prolly happen this summer.

And for the rear We'll bolt a sheet of 1" plywood (you know, about 12" wide to cover the whole surface) to the top of the channel, as a step/platform.

More amazing mechanical forensics - thanks for sharing John. I always enjoying picking through your photo documentaries of the projects you tackle.

Makes me smile that there is probably a classic collector out there somewhere who'd get all damp-eyed over restoring that old truck...meanwhile you are just concentrating on setting it up so that it can work even harder. Nice.

Nice job John, that should work very well! Those old tricks were built with real metal, nice to see then still around.

How's the weather up there right now?

Weather wise we baled some hay yesterday, and today its howling wind and pouring down rain.

Thanks.
