I am still out of the country but my wife picked up a ford superduty front dana 60 that is waiting to be narrowed for the jeep

What welding projects are you working on? Are you proud of something you built?
How about posting some pics so other welders can get some ideas?

when one gets emotionally involved with a project, one becomes blind to the cost. Join the club, but you will get bragging rights.Jim FLinchbaugh wrote:I'll admit to being a little envious. I really want to put a 4BT in my Tahoe, but the $$ is prohibitive.
By the time I get the engine, trans adapter and trans controller I'd be way upside down
A professional car restorer will tell that the dreamer will generally realize 20-40% of the cost + brag when he sells the ride.

Glad to have you back in one piece! Looks like you hit the ground running as soon as you opened the shop door.
BTW, The title of this topic has become a wee bit of an understatement.
I can rename it, if you would like a more appropriate title for what it's evolved into.

Thank! A new title is a good idea.Otto Nobedder wrote:Glad to have you back in one piece! Looks like you hit the ground running as soon as you opened the shop door.

It's your topic, so let me know what you come up with. Or we could just add, "and then some..."

Wow! Nice looking project you have going on there, you should have some nice low end grunt on tap. 1 ton up front should be about unbreakable. Are you going with a locker also?

Looks nice and clean!dzljon wrote:
Not sure if it's still a mock-up but I'd be a little concerned about the oil feed hose routing to the turbo in the picture..
Seems it's now running between the manifold and the downpipe. Could get awfully hot there even though it's a diesel and the peak exhaust temps are way lower than a gas one. PTFE (lined) hose can run up to 400F or so, but it will start degrading from that point onward. Also seems a little un-supported which could cause issues with the vibrations and weight of the hose cracking the fitting/connection to the turbo in the long run. (what? a big diesel having vibrations? nooooo.. of course not! )
Spraying hot oil over a turbo or manifold usually in the 'uh oh.. I think this is not so good' category
Could you perhaps run the oil hose from the block under and away from the manifold, towards the firewall and then up the firewall to get to the turbo from the other side? Just so it's far away from any 'hot pipes' as possible and with as little strain/stress on the hose and fittings?
Bye, Arno.
That little 4bt should be a beast in that TJ, interested in seeing what your fuel mileage improvement will be?
