I made a sheetmetal folder. Plans came from Rortydesign.net. Material was 125x75x12mm(3x5x1/2) angle for the clamp, machined from 75 down to 52 for clearance, same size for folding beam. Base is 125x65 channel. Hinges are 25x75 flat bar and the adjusters are 50x16 flat.
Stand is 50x50x1.6 rhs(box) with a bit of 150x50 along the top. Don't zoom in on the welds, all stick welded with a little tig.

It's for a mate, he's building an MG-B racecar. He had money and no time, I had time and no money.

Usually when I have time I don't have money either.
Good job on the brake. I bought one and know how useful they are. I have a slip roll too.

I assume it goes hand in hand. Make money lose time, gain time lose money. (However this guy made the choice to move an hour out of town, so that eats time every day)

If anyone is wondering about the small welds that don't tie completely off, the need to not distort the set up was king here. Small welds will work because its not under a huge amount of stress. This was hard for me to get my head around because I am used to doing 8mm fillets with a mig set to nuclear.

Nice job Mick,
Some questions of interest:
How much were the materials?
How hard was it to procure cut lengths of material in some of those less common sections?

It was designed that if you went nmuclear on it, it woud go to shit. Tjhat is all. Plus he's a mechanic, NDT operatror and all around general tinkerer, so he knows.
Coldie...Heres how it breaks down, I wish i had gone straight to the new steel option, I spent far too much time looking for second hand.
*3 metres of angle (third of a length) from Surdex $110, I had to push a little to get these answers as a couple of guys said they wont sell part lengths. But it is a standard stocked size.
* 1400mm 125x65 mm channel, bought from a local engineering joint, $40 bucks
* Odd pieces of flat bar, scrap from around**
* 150x50 rhs and the parts from my friendly local second hand man, mates rates $20 bucks.
*RHS for the a frame, customer had that already.
Bolts and bits, from my collection of bibs and bobs.
The plans are copy righted, I have no need for them any more so if the wind blew them to queensland, I wouldn't be worried.

That's the thing if I buy new I end up with odd sections on the rack when I'm trying to reduce bar stock. Still I have 5" channel on the rack that I would love to use up and I have 150x150 rhs that I could turn into 150x50 the hard way. The rest is not too bad to end up with an awesome folder. The angle is a bit of a pain.

When i was looking for angle, i found so much 150x q0 angle it wasn't funny. That, with an inbuilt stiffener would do the job.

I am really impressed!
I have two questions.. How do you adjust it for different sizes of metal, and may I see the plans?
Thanks,
Brett

Brett,
The metal thickness is changed by the two T screws on the back edge, they are supposed to have a circlip on them but I didnt deem it apppropriate for this particular job (read: it didnt work) so we are going to drill and split pin them. They have a machined shoulder which pushes on the angle for moving forward and the pin drags it back,
Plans are here:
