Anyone who has ever worked in a shop with limited space knows that no matter how carefully you space out your machinery, there will always be something thats in the way for some job and need to be moved. And that machine is usually the biggest and heaviest one you own... This happens to us quite a bit, so i finally made dollies for a couple things that were always in the way no matter where we put them. The problem I was having was finding the right caster. Anything that was heavy duty enough to handle several thousand pounds of grinder wound up being a huge wheel that put the working height of the machines table way too high to be useful or safe. The bigger casters also tended to bind up alot, making rolling anything a major pain in the ass.


Then i remembered these casters that i scavenged from some show many years ago. The show had several large wagons that had to move all over the stage during the show. They were massive and heavy, but they moved like a breeze, never bound up and could turn on a dime...

Here's some top and bottom pictures of them, they were homemade by whoever built the set they were on. They are very low profile, maybe 3 inches high at the most and can handle several thousand pounds with ease. If you have anything heavy you need to put up on wheels, I highly recommend making something like this. They work great.

I've also include a picture of my several thousand pound pedestal grinder/sander on a platform with these wheels so you can see the low profile they have. The wheels are mounted to the plywood base.

Hey,

Thats great, You can never have too many wheels and dollys thingies around. The trick is remembering that you have them, cause you normally find them after you've scratched around for a day with the wrong ones.
