Funny you should mention that. I was just griping about that the other day. Seems that in the last 10 years, I have had to design towers and such around cup holders. As if any of those rednecks put their beers down long enough to need one! I had to build a series of rear seats for ranger off road vehicles. Not only did they have to have cup holders, but multistage cup holders that would fit both bottle and can coozies?

I mean, I watched my boss fall off a set of stairs with a beer in his hand, a half twisty somersault, totally screwed his knee up in the process without spilling one drop of the beer!

Works great in those Alaskan swamps where there isn't a tree big enough for a tree stand. The bottom of the seat is 8'3" off the ground. Three pins attach it to the rack and the 1" square tubing legs slip off of 3/4" square tube welded to the plate that supports the seat. Breaks down quite nicely if I do say so myself. ;)

Broke out the plasma cutter for a quickie last night. This is just a 14" or so prototype, the real one will be about double this size. A caribou sillouette for my brother in law's new coffee shop he is setting up in Missoula, MT. Look for "Caribou Clatters" coming soon (I don't know exactly where...).

This is a removeable roof rack for an Argo. It will be attached to the roll bar system with latch clamps. The rack has to come off for the owner to get the rig into his enclosed trailer.

Update...

Finally got the Argo finished. Looks a bit tougher with the new hardware. ;)

The owner is changing the winch cable over to synthetic cable which is why the fairlead is not installed yet.

Thanks Bob, I don't have any action footage of that particular arch, but there are several YouTube videos of similar designs at work.

I'm not sure which version he is going with, he is still shopping last I heard. It has a 4000# winch so the braid should be rated for around 7000# in case he uses a block/tackle at some point.

I did a double-take at the first pic, as you'd said the fairlead wasn't installed, then realized it's the roller fairlead for the cable.

Then I scrolled down, and saw it without... :oops:

For anyone not familiar with winches, synthetic cable requires a hawse fairlead... No edges or corners for what is essentially "rope" to snag on in high-angle pulls.

I highly recommend synthetic cable for several reasons. It'll never rust, require oil, fray and stick you (right through your glove!), and does not need a safety weight; If it breaks, it just falls, where cable can take your head off.

Again, nice looking stuff, AKmud!
