First project - welding table

So, got a welder as I've always wanted to learn. Been around it for years at work and family. I get set up and build a decent size table. Nothing fancy here, nothing like some of the ones seen in the forums. I still need to put a shelf in the bottom. And the wheels while rated for quite a bit will have to see how they hold up. May replace with leveling wheels at some point. The top is 1/2 inch steel that I had water jetted. I did add the hangers for clamps on the sides; saw that here and it's a great idea.

I've always wondered what those slots are for. My table at work is a whole single 48X120 sheet of 1" hot roll, so it doesn't have the fancy stuff like that.
